Team McInerney rocks the WORLDs!
The 2013 World Irish Dance Championships were held in Boston this year. Leslie was part of an “8 Hand” Ceili Dance Team from McInerney School in Worcester (which Mary and Leslie have been part of for many years). Because of the intense international competition, expectations were not super high. The girls were mainly excited to get the opportunity to compete in the Worlds. Like the Florida Gulf Coast Basketball Team, they progressed far beyond most expectations. Out of more than 100 international teams, they progressed through 3 rounds and were awarded 16th place! A huge accomplishment and experience for both Leslie and the school. We are proud of her and them! -Bob

Why are you running for this organization?
DESENA: Evan and I went to Loyola University together and shared a devotion to Boston sports at a campus full of hated Yankees fans. Few people knew about Evan’s condition (congenital heart defect) due to the incredible and happy life he lived. This was the way Evan wanted to live his life. ... Every time I run, I run for Evan. The money we raise goes to a great foundation that helps pay for college for Hopkinton students while keeping Ev’s smile and memory alive.
SWEENEY: (Evan) was my best friend and in our time together he became like a brother. He passed away in our college dormitory in September 2010 and this organization that bears his name helps us to honor him by bringing together all the people whose lives he touched in such a remarkable way and allows each of us to fully commit ourselves to a cause that Evan would be proud of.
Anything else?
DESENA: In 2012, I ran the Boston Marathon for Evan raising money for Children’s Hospital, where Evan frequented due to his condition. On mile 18, I went down and was extremely dehydrated. I was unable to get up on my own and was helped to the sideline where I watched others struggle in the heat. As I was sitting there getting sick, I noticed two guys (Jacko Nealon and Ricky Odell) who I recognized were Evan’s friends from Hopkinton. ... Ricky and Jacko were able to help me walk and get rehydrated. The three of us continued on and finished running the Boston Marathon together. Crossing that finish line as a team was one of the best moments in my life. Evan came through and got us to that finish line.

Mary's Habitat Experience
I spent January 6-13 in Lucedale, Mississippi working with Habitat for Humanity. I went with a group of 22 from Sacred Heart, and over the course of the week we built the majority of a house, worked in a Habitat warehouse, and helped out at an elementary school. Meeting and working with the family who was to receive the house was amazing, because we all saw it go up together. A mom, dad, two daughters, and a son now have a sound, awesome house to live in! It was an absolutely incredible experience and was so much fun! We also got to experience the out-of-this-world southern cooking at every meal (carbs on carbs--we all definitely gained a few), and lovely southern hospitality. We also got to visit New Orleans, the 9th ward where the levy broke during Katrina, and Bourbon street. I definitely recommend Habitat to everyone. I would not have been able to go if not for all of your generous donations, which I thank you for with all my heart. You not only helped me get down there, but you also helped a very deserving family get a new home. A special thank you to Ann and Tom for organizing the money from the Christmas party, but I appreciate each and every one of your donations. You guys are the best!!! Love you all<3 span="span">3>

Support Callie's effort in 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk
Hi Everyone!
As
many of you know the month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness
month. I’m sure this hits home for many of you, as it does for me.
I’ve recently joined a team that will participating in the 2012 Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer of Boston, MA that will be this Sunday,
October 14th. I wanted to send a note out to get any and all
support from co-workers, family, and friends. Any amount of a donation
means so much to me as well as my team! With this walk, I am a fourth
timer and “The Next Breast Thing” is full of some incredible women all
looking to support this cause. Especially for our friend, Rachel who is
currently battling with breast cancer. She is in a chemo stage and
though most days are very rough, she has such a positive spirit and
beautiful smile through it all. It’s an amazing cause and to be
honest- a life changing experience thus far. People don’t realize how
much this affects them or their loved ones until they are dealing with
it firsthand. I’ve met some very courageous breast cancer patients and
survivors along with their families and friends. I’ve seen what this
disease has done to them, yet no matter what they’ve keep fighting the
fight which is because of the hope they have! There are amazing doctors
and nurses out there helping to fight this disease and one day find a
cure. This is where the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – Boston,
MA” Walk comes in. Over the years, this walk means so much to the
people fighting this disease and their families as they truly depend on
it and the money it raises. So, from here on out – I plan to
participate in this walk every year until that cure if found.
Thank you so much in advance for
taking the time to read this email and if you are able to make a
donation to Rachel’s team. It means a lot to me and even more to those
who you are helping to save their lives!
If you are able to donate – it is very quick and easy to do, the link to my donation page is:
Again, I cannot thank you enough for your support. Please let me know if you have any questions.
