Uxbridge Update

Uxbridge Update
I hope this update finds everybody well.  I want to first congratulate my cousins for their recent graduation accomplishments as well as upcoming weddings!  I’m sure that Grandma (and Grandpa) are looking down on all of this with big smiles!  I’m also proud to share some updates from the Uxbridge Nealons. Mary graduated from Holy Name last week and is heading to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT in the Fall!  She will be enrolled in their Welch College of Business as a Marketing Major.  Mary finished 3rd in her Senior class and gave a great speech at her school’s senior awards night two weeks ago.  It was a very proud moment.  Mary is working multiple jobs right now – still waitressing at Johnny Jacks restaurant in Milford as well as working at American Eagle clothing store in Millbury.  RJ is home and working this summer for Fish Window Cleaning (a job he had last summer as well).  If there is such thing as perfecting the craft of window cleaning, he has done it!  RJ successfully finished his sophomore year at Mount St. Vincent two weeks ago and is transferring to Syracuse University in the Fall.  He will be enrolled as a Junior in their “I School” (School of Information Studies).  Mike is finishing his HS Junior year and works many hours as a fry/grill cook at George’s Surf-N-Turf in Mendon (a job he had last summer as well).  If you are looking for some outstanding fried clams in the Blackstone Valley, go to Georges!  Leslie is graduating 8th grade and heading to Holy Name as a Freshman in the Fall.  After three years of teaching a full-time 6th grade class at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Worcester, Jen will be switching jobs in the Fall.  She will be teaching full-time middle school (7th and 8th grade) English and Social Studies at Our Lady of the Valley School in Uxbridge (where Leslie is graduating from).  Jen’s commute becomes awesome and she will be teaching the subjects and grade level that she wants.  We continue to be very blessed with good health and family.  I hope everyone is having an awesome Spring!

Nealons go back to the homeland!

During the week of November 13, members of the family went to Ireland to help Jack take a rest from all the studying that he has been doing at the Dublin School of Business. Our wonderful experience started with a weekend in Dublin with Jack as our tour guide. Sights to be seen included Trinity College, Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Guinness Brewery.
On Sunday, we drove across the country to Galway. While there, we spent a day visiting Innismore, one of the Aran islands located off the west coast of Ireland. You may have heard of the famous Aran Island sweaters. This picture was taken at Dun Aengus - The Fort of Aonghasa which is one of the best preserved prehistoric sights in Western Europe.

We then traveled to Dingle on the southwest coast. To get there, we followed the coast road and crossed the Shannon River on a small car ferry. During this trip, we saw some of the most beautiful scenery that I have encountered in all of my travels.
Dingle is a lovely seaside town, well known for its traditional Irish music which we enjoyed and its pubs which we also enjoyed. We also learned about the Blasket Islanders who were forced to evacuate their islands in the 1950’s. Coincidently, most of these folks settled in Holyoke and Springfield, Mass.

On the trip back to Dublin, we stayed in County Kildare in a large, old farm house on a working farm where they raise cattle and breed horses.

A wonderful time was had by all and we look forward to the next Irish adventure.

Terry and Andrea do the Jimmy Fund Marathon walk!

Hi Everyone,
I am pleased to report that we did it!!! Certainly the longest walk I have taken since I was working for Uncle Sam at Fort Devens in 1965. Although I told some of you that I was preparing for this event, I was a little uncertain if I could do it. Well, we did and it was another experience of a lifetime for me. I walked in Roberta’s honor and memory. I wrote a message about her on the memory board at the start and they brought those memory boards to the finish line.
Maybe next year, we can interest some people to form a team.

Love to all,
Terry

P.S. We tipped our caps as we past BC.
